Mr Massey has returned to Wcllrngton after bis North Island tour. Toscha Seidel, the Russian has sailed from London on a tour or Australia and New Zealand. Mr T. M. Wilford, M.P., Leader of the Opposition, arrived m Chnsichurca last mg<ht by motor from Blenheim. It is° reported that Mr C. F. Bellringer has been selected as the Reform candidate to oppose Mr S. G. Kmitn, for New Plymouth. Air Fred Re-ado Wauchop, who has just concluded a successful engagjpmen, with the J. C Williamson /"m £ Sydney, is expected to return to Christchurch at the end of this week. Mr W A. Low arrived in Christchurch yesterday- to make arrangement for the Christ-church season of Miss Ella Shields, the famous London cornElla Shields, the famous London comedienne, and her company. Mr H A. Adley, secretary of the Canterbury Fire Underwriters' Association, and Mr F. Il Shcpherd GhiefElectrical Inspector, left on Saturday morning for the AVest < Coast, on tlheir annual visit of inspection.
The Hon. George Fowlds arrived in. Christeliurch on Saturday morning. He is attending the session of the Coiigregational Union, and will probab.y remain in Christchurch for about ten days. On the - motion of Mr K. M» Grosson, Mr E. J. Corcoran, solicitor, of Kaiapoi, was admitted on Saturday <t.s a barrister of the Supreme Court by his Honour Mr Justice Adams. Mr It. C. Abernetliy was also admitted on the motion of Mr W. J. Sim.
The staff of the Insurance. Officei of Australia., Ltd., presented tho chief clerk, Mr P. 0. Evans, with a suitable token of'esteem on tho oocasion of his approaching marriage. Mr J. Francis Jones, on behalf of the staff, made tho presentation, and Mr Evans suitably responded. Tho following successes by Canterbury College students in the New Zealand University examinations are announced :—L. R. It. Denny, M.A., with soeond-class honours in history; J. McEnnis, second professional 8.E.; H. de 11. Flesher, second section 8.A., LL.B.; It. A. Lawry, final 8.A., LL.B.; (j. A. B. Connal, final section of LL.B. i 3. W. Pearey, second section B.Sc.
At the meeting of the W.E.A, on Saturday evening, Dr. C. Chilton referred to the success of tho Association's tutor on the West Coast, Mr _H. Belshaw, who had passed the examination for the M.A. degree, with firstclass honours in economics. This distinction lhad been gained only by two other graduates of the College—Professors J. B. Condliffe and D. B. Copland.
