ST. PATRICK'S SPORTS.

NEXT WEEK'S CABNXVAI. The St. Patrick's Sports Association, fiince its inception, has proved a live body, keen to promote and advance sport whether professional or amateur. The thixd annual sports meeting, which, this year will cover two days, March lTth and 18th, at Lancaster Park, has attracted 800 entries, and will be the greatest athletic attraction ever put before the people of New Zealand. In- the amateur running events keen competition is expected in the Shamrock Cup. C. H. Taylor, the half-mile Australasian champion, will be seen out over all distances, and his running l alcno should be worth seeing. Altogether five amateur races will be col *7 tested, four events for primary schools ana a mile cycle race. The secondary schoojs have been allotted a 120 yds race and an 860yd3 relay race. Open to all football clubs is an 880 yds relay race, four a-side, in football uniform, a football to be carried th* full distance. The winners of this race will take the Mayoress's Cup and four gold medals. One of the chief items is the , 135 yds St. Patrick's Sheffield Handicap, of 1 £SO, and Darfield Hibernian Cup, and runi ners from the North Capo to the Bluff T 7l *! be competing. W. F. Trembatli, one-time New Zealand champion half-mile, runner, will be seen in the open events, and also the championships- Such well-known per* formers as Jack Steel, of "All-Black" Rugby fame, T. O'Callaghan, Coulter, and C. V. Hack will be measuring strides. Such an array of talent his rarely been seen in Christchurch. The cycling events are arousing keen interest, and the appearance of Phil O'Shea, Australasian champion, ale® "Jumbo" Wells, from Blenheim, should lend interest to this section of the gathering. Apart from the handicap events* which include tho threo miles St. Patrick's Wheel Race, the public will witness the Dominions best sprinters in the half, one and two-mile championship. The fijve-mile Australasian Championship has been added to the cycling events, and should prove a great race. With such notable performers as 0 Shea, "Jumbo" Wells, H. Birch, and W. Henry the Taciug should bo interesting. Tho dancing events, which take place on the Friday, have drawn some of the best local dancers. Admission has been fixed at 2s for the stands and Is "for the embankment. No extra charge will be mado for tax. Two bands will be in attendance. On each day the sports will commence at 1 p.m.
