CRICKETERS' FETE.

A SUCCESSFUL FUNCTION. ; The Hagley Park cricket ground presented a gny appearance on Saturday afternoon, when the fete for which local cricket enthusiasts had-been working energetically for several weeks was successfully carried out. Though the weather was dull and threatening, there was a big attendance of brisk business tvius the order of the afternoon. The Tramways Band provided tut acceptable programme of music. Big marquees and smaller .tents had -been erected on y.arious parts of the ground, and all had wares in plenty to sell. Bach club in Ohristchurdh had undertaken to> aupply a stall or some other attraction,* with the result that goods of. all descriptions were in large suppfy, while an army of and young lady helpers saw to it that there was a big demand. An art union for a gold nugget, with paintings as lesser prizes, ensured a large' sale of tickets, while raffles of all descriptions helped tt* father in a goodly supply of shekels. tails and side-shows all had their fair share of patronage, and the fete was, in consequence, a financial success.- . Mr D. Redpath, president of the Canterbury- Cricket Association, was tte originator of the idea of the fete,.which was taken up very warmly by cricket enthusiasts. - Its objects were chiefly to. provide fuflda for the'installatipn.of an adequate water system tor the Hagley Park ground, to provide funds fo< the payment of the coach, and to meet liabilities in connexion with the upkeep of the Boys' League ground. Messrs A. Cameron and V. St. Edgar acted as joint secretaries for the/fete.
