YOUNG CITIZENS' LEAGUE.

i well-attended meeting of the Advisory Council of the Young Citizens League was held on Wednesday evenin"- at Baker's Buildings. The president (Mr C. E. Bevan-Brown) announced that Mr C. B. Hardie had accepted the position of' organising sec r retarv. He also welcomed the presence "of the vice-president, Mr b. Jtf. McCarthy, S.M. Mr O. f. Booth, chairman of the Finance Committee, reported having, by the kind assistance of the Horticultural Society, 'secured the use as an. office of Room 7, Ilaker s Buildings. Mrs Chilton brought up a report from the Women's Committee. Alter enumeratinn- the various agencies dealing with, Cirls°n Ohristchurch, the report recommended: (1) The establishment of a social centre in Christchurcli for girls and boys. (2) Assistance to the Girl Guides bv finding leaders. (3) hn-■dea-vours to yrovide wholesome entertainment. . After an animated discussion, in. which. Professors Shelley and Clinton, Miss Law, of the Y.W.C.A., and others took pan, it was resolved that tho report be referred to the executive tor consideration and report to the nextt meeting. ' it was agreed temporarily to work under tihe Auckland constitution. The president then made a statement of policy. The League had three mam objects: (1) To shepherd boys and girls who were not connected with any institution, and to promote among all young people a sense ef citizenship. \2) To co-ordinate and help all existing agencies. (3) To endeavour to axouse among parents a greater sense of responsibility. He mentioned that the office would, he hoped, bo a central bureau of advice, and that much, might be expected from the distribution of the journal and pamphlets. It was hoped to form local committees, who would inaugurate clubfi in their districts where needed. It was decided to endeavour to procure the name 9 and addressee of pupils; leaving the various schools at the end of tie year.
