THE LONSDALE BELT. LONDON, December 1. Lord -Lonsdale wrote to Mr Lucas (Cook'e manager) as follows :-"I confess having the same feeling as you regarding the desire of Australians to contest the belt. I must examine the original-conditions on which the. belt is given, and will communicate with you further on the : subject." Mr Lucas is elated with the letter, and is confident that he will achieve Bometning> big for Australians' interests. [The belt referred to is the Lonsdale Belt, which goes with a championship of England. In 1910 Lord Lonsdale presented the
National Sporting Club with a challenge bolt, for 'each class under certain ..conditione, one being that a belt became the property of any boxer winning it three times. Several boxcra have won belts outright. The reference to Lord Lonsdale examining the conditions probably means that Mr Luca3 has raised the point whether competition for the belts is confined to native born Englishmen, or whether the Dominions are eligible to Bend competitors.]
