BOWLING.

BIiEOTBIO LIGHT TOUBNAMENT AT AKABOA. Tb* Kev Zealand Hardware Merchants' Association having selected Akaroa as the town, to b* honoured by tno holding of its annual conference in February next, the local bowling drib. haii-' decided to celebrate the occasion by running an electric ligbt bowling tournament. As this will probably b«> tne first touriament tarried out under such conditions in INew ifeuiand, and as the Association's delegates number aniong themselves some very entimsiastic dovotoss of tne game, and as, thirdly, the popular little seaside tourist resort will, no ao'ubt, be weJU stocked with other, visitors at that season, the affair is bound to attract more than ordinary interest. At.a special ge'riaral meeting of the club on Tuesday evening* very complete arrangements were r.ade for carrying the tournament out. during the evenings of bebruary 14th and 15th the full rink. tournament will be played, and in the. afternoons of the eame days the doubles will be decided. A deputation, comprising the president'and the vice-president, Messrs W. w. "Williams and D. P. Porteous, and the Rev. J. W. Hayward, was appointed to wait upon the Borough Council in icppect to the lighting arrangements, while various eub-commit-taes were set up to ensure that every phase cf the tournament would get its proper share of attention. " Incidentally, it may be added that : the local club is hoping that the tournament, together with the sundry stall* to be "worked" on the grounds and other accessories of a email fete, will result in suoh satisfactory finonoial returns as will enable it to make a start with the pavilion. So far, a mere shed has done duty for this necessary adjunct of a well-equipped green, and the Akaroa Club feels it is high time it had something more pretentious to place at the disposal of its many Vvisitore.
