MOUNT MULLIGAN MINE DISASTER.
CUSTODY OP BELIEF FUNDS. {By C*M»—Prees Aewciatton—Cepyrifht.) (Australian, »nd N.Z. Cable Association.) MELBOURNE, November 29. The Lord Mayor, Mr Swanson, assisted by the chairman of the Woothakata i>hire, which has jurisdiction over Mount Mulligan, has decided to keep funds amounting to £SOOO in Melbourne, as all the caseß of distress at Mount Mulligan are provided for till the New Year, and the Queensland Government, under its powers, had appropriated all the funds collected. The Hon. E. G. Theodore, Premier of Queensland, telegraphed to the effect that the chairman of the Mount Mulligan trustees was receiving all fundß.for relief purposes. Mr iSwanson stated that he intended to ignore the telegram, aB the money was intended to relieve distress, and not for political advertisement. A Brisbane message states that Mr Theodore, interviewed, stated that the trust was constituted at the request of the dependants of the men lost in the mine disaster. The question was not a party one, and the trust was non-poli-tical.
