McDevitt defeated Ripley by three ler.-tjis. The race was marred by two collisions. The men were on, even terms for the first quar-ter-mile, when McDevitt became inclined to hem Ripley close to the shore. The latter moved out and a collision occurred. Both •topped and appealed to the -nmniro, McDonald, who ordered them to continue. Ripley had the best of the start, but McDevitt soon overhauled him, and was leading fcr five lengths at Cabarita. Ripley spurted and overhauled him at Henley, and humped "MoDevitt's atern. Bdtli appealed, but tne umpire giving no instructions, McDevitt resumed rowing and won easily, Ripley casing np in view of the mishaps. It is expected that another race wtl! be arranged.
