OANTEBBTTBY BXTCBY TOION. The Management Committee of the Canterbury Eugby Union met last night. Present —Messrs S. F. Wilson (ohsirm&n), B. E. Boag, P. I>. Kesteven, A. Duggan, O. Buchanan, G. P. Payne, A. Dey, W. Maxwell, H. Davis, B. H. North, B. W. Britton, A. E. MoPhail, and B. Beattie. The Canterbury Public Schools' Amateur Athleiio Association wrote flaking if the Union would issue passes for all matches to boye playing in teams, and to member* of the Association's foootball sub-commitee, and also asking the Union to give caps to boys representing the province in school football. It was decided to grant the requests. The New Zealand Rugby Union wrote stating that after April 80th next no further applications for reinstatement from players who had played the League game would bo entertained. The letter was referred to next Mason** committee. A very lengthy letter was received from Mr James McLeod, president of tha New! Zealand Eugby Union, dealing with various matters of interest, and making a number of suggestions for the better management of New Zealand football in the future. One of the most important suggestions was that the N.Z.B.U. Management Committee should consist of the president and eight delegates, one of whom should 'be treasurer; that, say, three of the eight should be resident in Wellington, and that of the. other five three should be from tha North Island and two from the South, and vice versa, as the president for the time being was from the North or the South Island. The members resident in Wellington might'be appointed an executive to deal with matters of administrative detail in the intervals between meetings of the full committee, which would probably be at not longer intervals than three weeks. The main point of the letter, said the pro* eident, was the question of the future management of the game. Mr McLeod'* scheme was all right theoretically, but it might hardly be practicable for delegates to travel every three weeks or so. Mr Dey thought that another idea was to pay the secretary of the Management Committee a sufficient salary to allow hint io travel frequently .from place to place, and to have the Management Committee appointed from the centre where headquarters might happen to be. The chairman said that the trouble recently had been that the committee had sot taken the various unions sufficiently into its confidence, with the result that instead of [ 00-operating, the different bodies had been working at ldggeiheads. Various members expressed the opinion that theoretically Mr McLeod was undoubtedly on the right lines. The matter was a big one, concerning which a conclusion could not be reached without considerable deliberation. It was decided to supply a copy of the letter to each member of the committee, and to hold a special meeting on November 22nd to consider the matter: M The revenue account for the period from March Ist to October 20th showed the expenditure to have been £ll9O lfie. The bal-ance-eheet showed an actual net loss of £248 Ss 4d, which was, however, chiefly accounted for by the fact that the training ground, which had cost £4ll 19s, had been written down to £IOO. The sum written off (£311) 19s), and the coat of sending the representative team to the North leland (£307) were the main items in the expenditure, while the largest item in the receipts was £577, from club matches. The chairman said that though the Union had apparently gone back, it must be remembered that five Saturdays had been gives up for the benefit of New Zealand Eugby Union matches, while there had been a large non-recurring expenditure in respect of the training ground and the purchase of shields. .Taken all round the season had been a very successful one. The Finance Committee, in a report, recommended that the question of erecting dressing-rooms at the training ground he held over until next season; that a grant of £lO be made to the Public Schools' Athletio Association, an honorarium of £ls 15s to the treasurer, snd a giant of £5 5s to the St. John Ambulance Association. Xhe recommendations were adopted;
PEOFIT OP £IO,OOO ON SPRINGBOKS' TOUE. (FKESS ASSOCIATION TELEGBAM.) WELLINGTON, November 1. Some plain spoken criticism was indulged in by members of the Wellington .Eugby Union to-night of a proposal circularised bjf the president of the New Zealand Union, Mr J McLeod, to affiliated unions for the reconstruction of the Management Committee of the parent body by the election of delegates outside the Metropolis. The chairman (Mr Prendeville) entered q protest against the writer's action in departing from the established practice of addressing the Unions direct instead of approaching the annual meeting of the Eugby Union. Mr Griffiths, a member of the New Zealand Management Committee, remarked that the recent Springbok tour showed a net profit of £IO,OOO. He agreed that the matter should have gone to the parent Union first. Mr Laws: Whatever we think of the acts of the present Management Committee, the present letter is outside our function to discuss. After further discussion, it was unanimously decided Bimply to receive the letter.
