A meeting of the retail section of the Canterbury Employers' Association was held yesterday to discusß matters connected with the holidays to be observed during Christmas and New Year weeks. Those represented were # the employers of shop assistants; the grocers and butchers were not represented. As regards the late nights during Christmas and New Year weeks, it was decided to follow the customary procedure and observe the late nights on the Fridays in these weeks; the weekly half-holiday will be observed on Saturday as usual. Places of business will be closed, all day on Monday and Tuesday December 26th and 27tn, and on Monday and Tuesday, January 2nd and 3rd. This will mean, in respect of the retail premises affected, that they will close from Saturday afternoon till the following "Wednesday morning. The same meeting discussed, the question of which night in Carnival Week should be observed as the late night, but it is understood that nothing definite was decided upon.
