ASSESSMENT COURT.
SITTING AT LEESTON. A sitting of the Assessment Court was. held at Leeston yesterday. Mr V. G» Day presided. Mr W. Cunningham was the Valuation Department's assesssor and Mr John Boag,' jun., wan the assestor nominated by the Ellesmeie. County Council. Fivo objections were &et down for hearing but only two cf the objectors attended. Mr Kelly ' represented the Department. The first objection heard was tha.t of John Ludemaan, Southbridge. The capital value of his 397 acre farm was eet down as £14,670. He considered the amount too 'liigh, as half the land was on the light side and wouH not stand heavy cropping. The' other half would grow 40 bushels of v/htat to the acre in an average season. H® had bought the property in September, 1911, at £13,524, with the crops given in. The Court decided to deduce the capital value to .£14,000, the improvement# being •etdnwn at £3,090. ■ , _ Tho. Pubijo. Trustfe applied for a reduction on a 68 cere farm at Lakeside in the estate oi th» late Tbotnaa Dixon. It ww» pointed out that the land was wet during a considerable part of the yeai by epringa. The capital villi# fixed .by the Xieportment was .£64 10s per acre. The Department had offered a compromise of £6O- - Court decided to fix the capital value .at £55 per acre, £290 being eet down aa tba value of imarovemaci*.
