MOTOR-CAR REGISTRATION.
NEW DISTRICTS PBOPOSED. Some time ago "the executive of the Soqth Island Motor Union • decided that, "in, view of the lai&e., number, of distripta in the Dominion. empowered to register motor-oars> and. the consequent difficulty in readily recognising the various identification letters on number-plates, the aleaa for registrar tipn should be enlarged. A Bub-com-mittee was ieet up to divide the. Soutn Island into areas conforming with the various police districts# and a*,yeß<«rr day's meeting of the executive of the Motor Union, the sub-committee^ Bub* mittoed tlie following recommendations : That motor-car registration ana licensing of drivers should be controlled bv the Police Department, and WW* the South Island should, for ejiph purpose be divided into t£e following areas:—(l) Marlborough P r f 1D ® Nelson province .boundary to Clarence rivet. Registration mark *M, followed by number. " .■. • „ (2) Canterbury province, from ence river to Raaigitata river, bounde on west by Southern -Alps. Registration mark "0," foUowed by number (3) Rangit&ta river to WaitaKi river, bounded on west by Southern Alps.. .Registration mark SO, ioilowed by number. (4V Waitaki river to Shag river, running back to Mt. Ihinston, and bounded on the west ,by line running from Lake Ohau to Mt. Dunston. Registration mark "NO," and number. J (5) From south. boundary of F* 0 -.* to Otago Police boundary, just north of "Waikawa rivsr. Registration, maris "O," and number. . (6) All that part south of line_ running from Big Bay to Mt. Aspiring, thenoe south to thence S.S.E. to Waikawa. Registration mark "S," arid number. ' (7) Teremakau river to Big Bay, bounded on .east by Southern Alps. Registration mark "SW." and number.- ' , .' , • (8) North, of Teremakau. river tp Kownai river. Registration, mark «W," and number. (9) All that part north of Kowhai river, and bounded on east by Marlborough boundary. Registration mark' "N," and number. Where considered, necessary, these areas could' bo divided into smaller 3ub-areas, marked by a smaller letter (a), (b), or (c), following registration mark. , It was further recommended that all traffic control should be in the hands of "the police. , , , The recommendations were adopted, and it was decided to forward a copy to the .Minister in charge of the Motor Vehicles Bill.. -
