ELECTRICITY SUPPLY.

REQUESTS FROM NEW BRIGHTON.

FA& lEEATMENT TO ALL.

The many requests received by the Electricity Committee of the City Council for extensions into various districts and particularly a pressing request from New Brighton/have led the committee to issue a declaration of policy. Reporting to the meeting of the City Council l*;t night, the committee stated that in reply to the 'requests from the New Brighton borough for further extensions in their district, it was decided to reply, pointing out that for some time past the borough has, relatively, received more favouraßle treatment than the city itself in the matter of electrical extensions, and in view of the large amount of work waiting attention in the city, the electricity department could not concentrate on one district, but that the work of extensions must be apportioned with du» regard to the claims of the whole system. Street Lighting. The committee also reported that several applications for additional street lamps within the city were considered, and it was decided to inform the applicants that the whole of the city street lighting was now under revision, tind that the extensions in view would take into consideration the cases for which the applications were made.

Spreydon Undertaking. The Eleotricity Committee also presented a statement showing the figures at which the Spreydon undertaking should be taken over by the department. The total liabilities (loss Making funds) were put down at £5803, nnd the total assets £4708 (liquid assets £6OB, present valuation of undertaking £4100), leaving a difference between the book value and the present value of the plant of £1095. Cr W. H. Winsor asked how the book values were arrived at. As the figures stood, it looked bad from tihe Spreydon point of view. # Or. A. McKellar, chairman of the committee, said the values were arrived at after a careful examination or the Spreydon Council books. The report was adopted.
