Viscount Jellicoe's yacht Iron Dulm won the tihird heat of the 14-foot sailing haat championship, beating she I>unedm-owned Heather by Imin 40sec. The Governor-General's boat has now won two out of three races in tho liverace contest.

Mr W. J. P. MeCulloch, owner and skipper of the Heather, was born at Ravensbourne, Dunedin, and has always taken a keen interest in aquatio sports, lie started his career when a small boy in the old champion bixteen-fooler Vision in 1896. Since then he has owned successively the Vision, Ventura, and Dream, each boat competing successfully in various regattas with "Mac" at the tiller.» When motor launches came to the for©, he soon took an active part in engines. He built the Seal, a little boat about 20ft long, fitting Iner with a 2} h.p. engine. In this craft he left Otago Harbour for Oamaru without sails or ,oars, depending solely on his engine to take him there and back. He did the trip without mishap, and so proved tiho reliability of the Seal engine. Later. Mr MeCulloch. built the Kelvin, at that time the fastest' launeft in the Harbour. This boat is creditod with being the only launoh to make the trip by water from Dunedin to Christchurch. He called at all the ports on thp < way up to Sumner; thence he cruised tip ' tiho Avon to Christchurch. Later he purchased the, old yacht Leader, and after installing an engine he used her for jjruising.
