A NEW PARTY.
NATIONAL PKOdBESSIVE AND MODERATE LABOTJE.
The acting National Council of the -newly-fprmed National Progressive and Moderate Labour Party has (according to Saturday's Wellington "Post") sent tfio following telegram to Mr O. E Statham, M;P.: "Acting 'Executive Council of- National Progressiva and Moderate Labour Party resolved unanimously at ite meeting on Tuesday evening, the 22nd inst., to ask you to be- < como first national president of this organisation, and pledges its support should you accept same. ftindly communicate by telegraph with W. }'• jlack, general organiser Wellington.
(SPECIAL TO "'THE PRESS.") WELLINGTON, March 27. Of political parties there is no end. Mr Statham is now asked to head the National Progressive and Moderate Labour Party. What that "party is few people here seem to know. Its general organiser is ' Mr W. P. Black, and as Mr Statham is asked to become its first national president, the presumption ia that it is still in a process of evolution. It is not likely to get very much support inside Parliament, and one has seen so many of these efforts to form Earties come to naught in the past that e would be a cheery optimist who would predict a success for this one. In the present condition of New Zealand's politics, however, it will Vo interesting to learn what its policy is and who-are likely to become its political adherents in parliament.
