FURTHER CORRESPONDENCE,

In connexion with the discussion at the Hospital Board on Wednesday, m connexion with the application of R. S. McKenzie, for tho admission- of his father, Donald McKenzie, to the hospital, the following correspondence preceded tho letter to which the Board took exception:—

The wile of applicant, my mother, is on the verge of a neivous collar):*, and any day may break djwn undv'r the strain of nursing her husband. I would therefore esteem it a great i",iv-,nr if your Board could act as quickly as possible in this matter."

The reply to the application . was as follows: ~'"i he Beard is prepared to admit your father, Donald McKcnzie, .to the homo lit Asliburton, if you give a guarantee in writing that the weekly payment to bo made shall be 30s per week, including the old age pension." 4 The miitter was brought up in the report of the Benevolent Institutions Committee, which said:—"A letter h;i3 been received from Mr R. St. Clair McKenzie concerning un application which he made for ll;o admission of his father to one of tho Boaid's institutions. A copy of the letter is attached hereto, so that, tho Board may !)o Made aware of the attitude which certain prisons take up when the relief offered by the Board does not altogether accord with, the wishes of the applicant."
