If they adhered' to this the Sew Zealand Union would > have no option but to put Auckland out. Some altarnutive would havo to bo sought. as theV could not afford to let Auckland b>e*k iivav. On the other hand, if Auckland persisted, its representatives could not play South Africa. While the Auckland Ku»by Union was quite anxious, he was sure, t'i fall into line, the players would not a low it. He was sorry to *>y tnat players weic led in this by tho referees. The English Union had granted everything of importance asked for, with the exception, of penalising the hick into touch, Mr McLeod proceeded, and tlisit poipt, unfortunately, Auckland was standing by. It had been suggested to Auckland that they diould still play that game as a matter of good_ tactics, but not penalise a man who did lack into touch. Mr McLeod mentioned that Auckland controlled practically 25 per cent, of the Rugby players, in New Zealand. The attitude taken up concerned Taronaki veiy much, because its closest . neighbours and rest friends were the Auckland Rugby Union. ENGLISH CUP PLAY. (By Cable—Press Association—Copyright.)
