Their Excellencies the eral and Lady Jellidoe, accompanied by the Hon. Lucy Jellicoe, will make a tour of the South Island next month They will arrive in Christehurch from Ashburton on the afternoon of March "23rd, and will leave on Maroh 30th for Wellington. Mr A. Peverill has been re-eleoted president of the Christohurch Workingmen's Club, and Sir J. Harfield has been elected vice-president. Mr W. H. Hagger, Conciliation Commissioner, left yesterday for Dunedin. He will be in the South for the greater part of the week. Before the business at yesterday's meeting of the South Waimakariri River Board was taken, a motion of condolence with Mr F. E. Jones, on the death of his wife, was agreed to, members standing. At the meeting of the Ashburton Borough Council last night, the appointment of Mr J. H. A. Pedder, of Riccarton, was confirmed as temporary town cleric, at a salary of £8 per week, the town clerk, Mr' A. McClure, having been granted three months'* leave of absence, to enable him to undergo an operation in the Christehurch Hospital.
