NIGHT TRAINING GROUND.

APPROVED BY DOMAINS BOABD. A- report on the Rugby Uiiioirs proposal to form a night training ground in Hagley Park was received from, the Sports Committee of the Domains Board at yesterday's meeting of the Board. The committee had met a deputation from the Rugby Union and discussed! the matter, and now recommended that the Board level a piece of ground approximately 70 yards by 50 yards, for use aa a night open-air training ground; the Rugby Union to pay a nominal rental for the same. The Bugby Union proposed erecting special lighting at ai cost of about £450. If the Board.wish* «d to use the lighting for any nighttime functions of its own it could do so by paying the expenses. The Rugby Union also wished to erect new dressing shedi ift connexion, with the schema, with which the Sports Committed was entirely in favour. In presenting tin* report, Mr W. H. Winsor, chairman of ther Sports- Com>mittee, said that the area might be of us& to the Board for night entertainments. Mr H. J. Beawick opposed the idea of people congregating in the Park at night. While hj« did no#wMi to hinder sport, he would not like to see any portion of the Park used at night time. The matter should be carefully gone into. In the opinion of Mr B. McGregor: Wright, the Rugby Union only asked) for a training ground. The Board would hav.e to erect a lodge later on, and it could serve as a dressing-room is the meantime. Mr A. W. Owles pointed out that nd entertainments could be held withonb the Board's permission, Mr Winsor said he had onijj mentioned entertainments as a possibility for the Board. He thought mat the cluba which had dilapidated dressing-rooms in the Park at present would be prepared to pull them down and erect others near the training ground. Mr H. T. Armstrong said he was off opinion that the only objection which could be taken to the proposal was that it catered for one branch of sport, bat Uhia would hardly be so. The- Rugby Union should be congratulated on its enterprise. Mr Harper: They could not have the use of the ground beyond one year if the Board revoked its permit. The Board agreed to lay out aa area as requested, audi it was decided, in connexion with the propoetd erection of .dressing sheds, that the Rugby Union: should be asked to submit plans and specifics tiniMof the sheds, etc.
