A sub-committee was appointed to maKo arrangements for improved iightmg o the hall on Show night. Miss GlanviUo undertook to take charge of tho retresliment room as usual, and it was decided to invite the local Brass Band to attend. It. was decided to ask Sir Heaton llhodes to open the show next month. Tho Southbridge Town liall was crowded on Thursday night, on the occasion of a complimentary concert to Miss L. Kilbride, in recognition of her valuable services as a singer at many concerts held in different parts of the district for several years past. 1 eople i'rom all parts of the Ellesniere County attended. Mr J. C. Free, chairman oi tho Town Board, spoke of the esteem in which Miss Kilbride was held and of the services she had so willinglyi given whenever asked. The performers wero jvlesdames McEvedy, Lochhead, Thompson, Misses Hoi lev, . Barnett, McPherson. Hantz, and Hope, and Messrs P. .T. Eccleton, W. Watson, T. C 4. Harder, F. H. Perlcin, H. Austin, and T. F. Owens. Me.sdanics Scott and Marshall and Miss Thompson were the accompanists. A dance followed, for which music was supplied by Mesdames Camj>bell and Delargev. lEE23TON. Arrangements for tho Anniversary Day sports were made at a meeting of the" Eiiesmere Athletic Club. The members present agreed to assist with thework :of putting, the racing track and grounds in order. Mr A. W.; Green was appointed convener of the children's committee. Lloyd, of tho railway staff; was entertained at a public social function on tho evo of his transfer to the'Christ-church-'goods office. On behalf of a large number of friends, Mr 1\ LiU [presented Mr with a gold-albert and testified .to the courteous and obliging manner in which he had performed his duties. Mr Llovd was also tho recipient of 'a gold medal from fellow employees in tho railway,service. LOBURN. A largo gathering of friends and wellwishers assembled at the Coronation Hall to entertain Mr and : Mrs Jl. H. Bailey, and family, who aro leaving, the district to takp .up their. residence in Kan'giora. The Rev. L. A. Knight and Mrs . Knight, of Leithfield, wero also present. During the evening Mr Kenned v, on behalf of'tho residents,, presented Mr and Mrs Bailey with a handsome silver tea service, and referred.to their good qualities as neighbours, and expressed regret that they were leaving tho district.. Mr Knight also ■ spoke of the good wojk done by Mr and Mrs Bailey in connexion with St. Martin's Church, and tho valuable assistanco they wero always ready .to give. Miss N. Bailey received a suedo handbag, and Miss .A. Bailey a silver serviette ring. Songs were given by Mra' Trollopo and Mr Parsons, and a recitation by Master A. Harper. Music tor tlie. dance was played by Miss luter, 'Messrs Whitanv, Joyce, and Fitzzibbon. The Sports Committee has decided to hold their annual Boxing Day sports on Mondav, December 27th, for which an attractive programme will be prepared. HORORATA. At a meeting of the Memorial Committee the chairman reported that the contractors had finished the memorial, which'is built of local Bluff stone with a marblo tablet, with, the names of the fallen inscribed thereon. It was decided to hold the unveiling ceremony on tho 16th iiist., tho Ven. Archdeacon Ensor, and the' Revs. Knight and Bates, to be Invited to take part. . ; . \ farewell social was tendered in tne liall on Friday to Mr S. R. Wright, who has been Countv Clerk and engineer for the Selwyn- County Council for tho past seven years, and who ia leaving to take up similar work at \\ annate. During the evening Mr Iroiisides presented Mr and Mrs. Wright with two easy chairs on behalf of the residents of the .district. Dancing was kept up till the.small hours of the morning. Mrs Pollard supplied the music. A.sliort ! dance .was held after the concert, music j being supplied by Mrs Critcliley. j Ironside, chairman of the School Commit tee, spoke a few words during the interval, in Tvhidh. he announced that t the scho.ol piano, for which the concert ! was organised to raise funds, was now paid off; and also impressing on tho people the need for funds for a swim- ! iuing bath at the school. t The fallen soldiers' memorial is now completed, and the. unveiling will be held on Anniversary Day, when it is hoped that the district people will all turn out as a tribute to the brave boys who' gave their lives for their country. kowaFbtjsii. On Tuesday, a Sunday school concert, organised by t3ie Sunday school teacher, Mr A. Russell, tvos held ill the schoolroom. The children contributed .several items, ujostly of a 1 .sacred character, all of which were well received, but the success of' the evening was 'mainly due , ,to the 'help of a Salvation-Army party J from* Oxford. A substantial sum of j money was raised in aid of the Sunday J school prize fund. j
