Tlio weather waa fine and the wicket sticky. The teams axe:— South Australia: Pellow, Smith, Rundell, K. Richardson, A. Richardson, Gehra (captain), Phillips, Pritchard, Ambler, Thurgarland> and Honrv Stirling. England: Douglas, "Wilson, Howell, Strudwick> Makepeace, Woolley, Hobbs, Hearne, Russell, Parkin, and Hendren. .... Owing to an abscess under his bowling arm, Wa'ddington will bo unable to play for some time. Douglas won the toss and Pellow and Smith wero tho opening batsmen. At the sccond ball, Pellow was caught at point by Parkin off Woolley. Sterling was bowled by Parkin in the same over. Smith was bowled by Parkin. Tho ball struck hi 3 chest and cannoned on to the wicket.. Gehrs was baffled by Parkin's deliveries and was dismissed without scoring. 4. —4. A. Richardson and Henry showed a semblance of brightness. The former late cut "Woolley for three. He was batting 25 minutes for seven. The wicket' waa extremely difficult. Henry hit a full toss sent down by Parkin to tho boundary, and also drove him for -a couple. The first 50 was forty-eight minutes in the making. Henry was dismissed by Parkin. A. Richardson was joined by V. Richardson, but tho partnership waa short. The former mishit a hard volley to Hobbs at cover and was out for seven. Rundoll followed. He made a single, and waß then bowled by Parkin, who in 11.2 overs had taken six wickets for '36 runs. At the luncheon adjournment the_ score was seven for 78. On resuming, Parkin bowled Phillips with his fourth ball. Richardson, in attempting to hit Woolley to long-on, was bowled. He made 38 in 97 minutes. His score included three fours. Fourteen runs came off tho first over. Fifty *ppearod for thirty minutes' play. Russell was badly missed twice. The century went up after 103 minutes' play. Hobbs mishit Smith to square leg, and was caught by Pellew. Tho score waa then 116. Hobbs showed sound defence. Hearne joined Knsaell. Runs, mostly singles, came slowly. Hearne waa 49 minutes in making 29. Ho hit Rundell to tho square leg boundary. . Both were cautious. Tho wicket had improved considerably, and the runs should have come moro freely. Russell reached tho century after 150 minutes' play. Ho has eleven fours and oro six to hia credit. When stumps wcto drawn England hod lost one wicket for 201. Soores:— ENGLAND. First Innings.
