Mr W. Stone has sold Checkmate to an Australian buyer through H. Chisholm and Co.. of Sydney. Checkmate -will be shipped to Sydney from Lyttelton this week. Mr J. B. Reid is leaving England on a trip to Nev.' Zealand in December. Kilalla has broken denvn, and has been mated with Sunny Lake. A Press Association telegram from Auckland states that "William H. Windsor, owner and trainer of tho racehorse_ John Bunny, was arrested after training operations at- Ellerslie. Windsor -was charged that he worked tho horse -while it was suffering from a sore back. In Court Windsor pleaded guilty. His counsel said tho sore had developed after racing at Avondale, and the horse had been entered for the forthcoming .steeplechase. Windsor, wlio was a -poor man, could not afford to let th® horse go otifc of form. He had only galloped tho horse two or three minutes each morning. Windsor was fined £10 and costs.
