CASUALTIES.
(press association telegram.) TE AWAMUTU, October 8. 'A burning accident at Pirongia this morning resulted in serious injuries to Mrs IJarsonß, wife of a popular settler. Slio is in indifferent health, and occupied a room adjoining that of her husoarid, -who, at 2 o'clock, was awakened by her calling out. Ho found the room ablaze, and with difficulty carried her to the verandah and subsequently checked the fire. 9he has been unconscious all day, and her condition is critical.
DUNE DCs, October 8. Fleming Russell, 24 years of age, single, a farm assistant, residing- with his parents at Milburn, was riding along the'Henley-Berwick road to-night on a motor-cycle, when he collided with a trap, and was killed outright. Ho was a son of Mr T. H. Russell, a member of the Otago Harbour Board. During the currency of the war the deceased seryed in a hospital ship.
