Mr and Mrs Middleton (Melbourne) are visiting Christchurch. Colonel and Mrs Shawe (Longhcach) are in town. Mr and Mrs James Yates (Sydney) went South after a stay in Christchurch. Mr and Mrs Kenneth Mackenzie (Auckland) arrived in Christchurch yesterday. and are at the United Service. Mr and Mrs F. B. Cadraan (Auckland) are staying at the Clarendon. Mrs and Miss Cantwell have returned to Dunedin after a stay in Christchurch. Mrs J. F. Re id (Oantaru) and Miss McLean (Dunedin) are staying at Warner's.

Mr and Mrs C. "W. Rattray (Dunedin) are visiting Christc-hurch. Mrs H. C. Jones (Auckland) is staying at tihe Clarendon. Mr and Mrs J. D. Hall (Hororata) arc iu town. Mrs R. Trist Searell is staying with Miss Searell, Papanui road, and is leaving shortly for Auckland. This evening, at the Y.W.C.A., a aeries of lectures on first- aid, under tho auspices of the St. John Ambulanco Association, will commence. From 7to 8 o'clock, Major A. L. Gray, of the St. John Association, will explain the regulations to be followed, and Mrs Jones, lady superintendent of the Beckenhani Division, with oiJher nursing sisters of the St. John Association, will give practical demonstrations. These will be followed by a lecture at. 8 p.m. by Dr. Bonar Lindsay, on the principles of first aid to the injured.

The Christchurch Nursing Division of the St. John Ambulance Brigade held its weekly meeting on Monday evening, Miss Mills, Isidy superintendent, presiding. Br. Spencer Daniell gave ftiis final lecture to _ the _ First Aid Class, members according him a very hearty vote of thanks. Miss TV.ardle, who has belonged to the Division for 14 years, and who has held the position of firstofficer for some years, tendered her resignation, which was accepted with keen regret.

"'Yesterday the Rangiora branch of the Plunkefc Society held a sale of flowers, and infants' garments, in 'the street, at Johnston's corner. In spite of the wet weather the financial results were very satisfactory, about £50 being netted. Included in the takings was a sum of £15 realised by a sheep given, by Mr Alan Macfarlane, whicli was sold and resold several times by auction, at the stock sale, and £6 13 6d obtained for a cake in a guessing competition, the winners of which were Messrs C. Devlin, G. Mardon, and W.' Duff ell. The proceeds of the sale were in aid of the funds of the branch. * Mrs J. W. Berry and her little daughter have returned to Rangiora from Culverden. Her sisters, Miss Kingsbury and Miss Ivy Kingsbury, have gone to Hanmef Springs.
