WAR MEMORIALS.
EXHIBITION OF DESIGNS.
Considerable interest is being shown in the collection of designs for war memorials at present on view in tha City Council Chamber. The designs were collected by Mr S. Hurst Seager, of this city, who is at present visiting England, and are representative of tno various forms that have been adopted for perpetuating the memory of those who made the supreme sacrifice, and] those who were prepared to do so in the great war. 'As was to be expected, t)ho designs are varied in character as well as in dimensions; the majority are xeligious in design. Of those intended as national or city memorials it us possible that the monument to "The Glorious Dead," erected in Whitehall, London, will appeal to many as singularly appropriate, its appeal and effectiveness being due largely to its simplicity and the sense of massiveness it conveys. In addition to memorials in connexion with the great war there are examples of national and other memorials calculated to assist t'hose seeking _ for appropriate designs, for war memorials. The exhibition, admittance to which is free, will be open daily from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., 2 p.m. to 5 p.m., and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.
