ANNUAL MEETING. The annual meeting of Hie Bth (South Canterbury) .Regimental Band was lie d in the Bantl room, Ashburton, cit Mond;;y ni.ght, Sergeant-Major J. Annand presiding over a pood attendance. The committee, in its annual report, stated that the past year had been ;i most fiiccopsful one i'rom every point of view. It regretted the retirement of Lieutenant H. I'. \V. Blutliwayte, and oxprc = s:d its bijh appreciation of his hearty co-oporation and support in all. matters relating to the welfare of the Band. Lieutenant Quarterly, his successor, was doing good work. The committee also deeply regretted the loss of Sergeant L. G. McDonald, who had removed to (ho North Island. During the year Mr J. Annand had filled the position of conductor with marked ability and zeal, but his business would not permit liini to continue in the position. His placo had been taken by Lieutenant "\V. 11. Osborne. Tho membership had steadily increased, and with the Junior Band, now numbered. 50 players. The new set of silver-nlatcd instruments had just been la.nded. Tho committee decirod to p.ace on record its grateful thanks to Mrs H. J. Chapman for the sum of £101 'Is Dd voted from tho proceeds of "Coanland," of which she was tho organiser and director. The balance-sheet showed receipts £120 15s, and expenditure £210 4s 7d. The chairman, in moving tho adoption of the report and balance-sheet, remarked that •during the past year they had had a lot of work to do f . It was his wish, and the wish of all the other members, to make the Band second to none in the Dominion, and it could be done with more r>ract ice. They must liave two nights u week. more, especially in view of tbe band contest which was coming off in Wellington. The Junior Band had been a great success, and it was hoped that v when the new instruments were to hand they would be able to form a second Junior Band. .The report and balance-sheet were unanimous'}' sdoDted.
