IMPERIAL TRADE RELATIONS.
A CANADIAN CONFERENCE. (By Cable—Press Association —Copyright.) (Australian and N.Z. Cable edition.) OTTAWA, May 31. In welcoming the West Indian delegates to a conference 'for discussing closer trade relations with Canada, the Duke of Devonshire (Governor-General of Canada), pointed-out that the real question at issue was that of making the future of the Empire secure. If ■the Empire were self-supporting, its security would be unquestionable. Colonel L C. Amery, representing the Colonial Office, emphasised the Imperial aspect of the conference, and said he hoped the outcome would bo a widening of the existing trade preferoaoe between the Dominion and the "West Indies. The Hon. E. St. John Branch, At-torney-General for Jamaica, stated that the colony was prepared to enter whole-heartedly into any great scheme for the consideration of the Empire. Representatives from all parts of tho West Indies were, present.
