ANGLO-JAPANESE TREATY.

EMINENT STATESMAN'S VIEWS. (By Association —Copyright.) (Heutcr's Telegrams,) TOivIU, May 29. The Marquis Okuma declares that the alliance between Great Britain and Japan is more than ever neccssaiy, m view of* tho after-war conditions ol : the world, especially in the Orient. Dangers threaten China, S.beria, and India, particularly India. With the Bolsheviks threatening the bordeis, the knowledge that Japan would not interfere in India, whatever happened, would greatly encourage the Reds. The League of Nations was not solid enough to safeguard tho world. This f was shown through the Anglo-French Alliance ifnd the present refusal of America to ratify tho Peace Treaty. The contracting parties wore not alone interested in the Anglo-Japanese Treaty. America was vitally concerned in Oriental peace, and would bo welcomed into the Alliance, making it of triple efficiency in guaranteeing peace. Japan had played a significant part in guarding the Pacific transport routes nnd frustrating German designs in Russia. She was a constant and faithful ally. (Australian and JT.Z. Cable Association.) (Received May 31st, 8 50 p.m.) NEW YORK. May 31. The "New York Times"' learns from Tokio that Baron Ilayashi, tho new Japanese Ambassador to Great Britain, will take up negotiations for the I' renewal of the Anglo-Japanese Alliance as soon as he reaches London. Japanese publicists who support tho ro- > newal of the Alliance say that modifications will be made in tho renewal, but they point out that tho Bolshevist : menace to India is one of the reasons j why Great Britain should desire a renewal.
