« YESTEEPAY'S MEETING. Tho Christclmrch Tramway Boa.rd met yesterday. Present—The Hon. J. Ban - (chairman), arid ilossis T. 11. Davey, S. A. Staples, D. Sykes, J. "Wood, A. S. Taylor, H. Pearce, and Geo. T. Booth. Tho Prime. Minister wroto stating that he was looking into the Board's application fur permission to build new repair shops and motor sheds at an opt.ima.t-cd coat of £20,000, and would reply further as early as possible. The letter was received. Tho AYaimairi County Council asked that a deputation Uj received regarding tho proposed loop at Papanui. Mr Staples said the Papanui people thought the loop as laid or.t would canst- a blockage on tho Harowood road. Mr Vv'ood eaii the papanui people for long had agitated for an improvement at the terminus, and directly th-e Board proposed a scheme tho people objected. It was decided to receive ths deputation at the next meeting. Tho New Brighton Borough. Council asked that a 'deputation be received respecting' a proposed she-lter and conveniences near tho pier. It was resolved to hoar tho deputation at tho next meeting. Tho Postmastor, Christchivrch, wrote agreeing to increase tho mail contract payment to £100.' Tho New Brighton Rifle Club thanked the Board for tho use of tho car shed for practices. ' • Tho Tramway "Union expressed lhanlta for the Board's subsidy to fht> sick and accident fund. Tho Tramway Band and tho Tramway Social Club also returned thanks for assistance rendered by tho Board. The Sumner Burgesses' Association thanked tho Board for the improved smoking facilities granted. 1 Jlr J. Murray wroto asking the Board for smoking conveniences on tho Cash more cars similar to those granted on other Lines, that was inside the old trailers. The general manager was asked to supply a report on tho whole Question of smoking in cars. Tho Work? and Traffic Committee reported that they had accepted the tender cf Messrs R._ "W. Cameron and Co. for 1830 tons of rails, with accessary fish platen and bolts, nt a landed coat, including duty, of i i'55,2C0. It was expected to mako ship- j tn«nt _ early in 1921. The rails were of j American manufacture. Difficulty was experienced in getting- any quotation for British rails; ultimately ono was received at over £20,000 in oxcess oi the American tender, which is loaded with a preferential duty of 20 per cent. Fresh quotations wcro invited for trolley wiro and covipsr bonds. The* Ileathcotc County v.-as offered! good road material for improving the approaches and filling in floors of tho shelters erecicd by the Ileathcoto- Council at Sandi- j lauds and Heaf.hcote bridge. The Council, ! in accepting tho offer, asked for tarred macadam in addition. Tho committee replied that it could not exceed its vote of j £•20 towards cost of erection in each case. - Tho report was adopted.
