POLO.
STEAD CUP.
There waa a large aittoadanco at the Polo Ground yesterday, when the first lound of tho Stead Cup tournament was played. The weather conditions were perfect for polo, and some interesting play was witnessed, much moro so than the ecorcs would indicate. Six teams took part, and the games were each of seven chukkaa of eight minutes. Messrs C. Teßchemakeir and Snerratt acted as referees. In the game between Pareora A and Christchurcb, A. El worthy, captain of the former team, received a nasty hit on the head, but resumed play after a brief Bpell, while in tho game between Pareora B and Rangiora B, H. Knublsy's pony Mischief broke one of its legs and had to bo destroyed. The tournament will bo continued to-day, when that for tho Rhodes Cup will also be commenced. Yesterday's results ■were as follows: — , 'Pareora B (H. Orbell, A. Mackenzie, W. Hamilton, airJ F. L. Donkin) defeaited Rangiora B (F. Johns, T. Henshaw, H. Knubley, and C. H. Elisor) by 8 goala to 4. The Pareora players scored 2 goals each, and Enaor and Knubley did likewise for Rangiora. Pareora A (L. Orbell, P. Elworrthy, H. Elworthy, and A. Elworthy) defeated Christchurch (P. Johnson, Major Hutton, T. Cowlishaw, Dr. Maitland) by 9 goala to 3. Orbell scored 3 goals for the winneaw, and the other members of his team 2 cach, while Hutton (2) and Cowlishaw scored for Chrislcliurch. Rangiora A (Hugh Ensor, D. Chapman, E. Fear, and J. McCrack-in) defeated Amtiri (C. O. T. Rutherford, J. Chapman, H. Chapman, and R. Gould) by 14 goals to 3. Chapman (6), Ensor (4), Fear (2), and McCracken (2) scored for Rangiora, and J. Chapman and Gould (2) for Amuri.
