THE OXFORD-CAMBRIDGE RACE.

Cambridge struck the water fir3t. Oxford, -using their weight to good advantage, soon held a slight leua, but at Beverley xirook Cambridge Jed by nearly a length. Oxford spurted and reduced the distance to half a length at the mile post. Tlie positions were unchanged at Hammersmith Bridge. Hitherto the advantage of station ha:t assisted Cambridge, who soon increased their lead to two lengths. Bolh were hugging the Surrey shore closely. Cambridge led by three lengths opposite Duke's .ileadows, where Oxford shot across for the shelter of the Middlesex bank, and tried their utmost to reduce the lead, but Cambridge quickly followed, and when across still maintained a two-lengths' lead. Oxford repeatedly spurted after Barnes Bridge, but fruitlessly. The time was 21inin Usee.
