RICCARTON'S NEED.
TO THE EDITOR OF "'THE THESE." Sir, —Tho Canterbury Progress League is out to benefit this province. There was about £49,000 spent on Canterbury works Jn.str year, whereas soino of the North Island provincos, witli their main trunk lines completed, hail over £200,000 spent. There seems little doubt that tho .Reform Government will go hack with a substantial majority, thanks to the solid support of tho North Island, and yet Christchurch, with a population of about ninety thousand, will bo almost unreS resented. In West Christchurch, or however, we have a chance hero to get some representation as far as.tho Government is conccmed, and I think that the Riecarton electors, whatever their poliliral colour, should blork vote for tho Reform candidate, W. R. Devereux. 110 has been in business hero for about thirtv years, has alwnys been a straight goer, and lias his head screwed on alio right way, to got Canterbury hrr fair share of public assistance. Talk about proportional representation ! One Government candidate contesting a pent nut of six. and no wonder, when tho city refilled to listen to the Prime Minister on three different occasions.—Yours, etc.. "AN ELECTOR."'
