Hatchwell, tho Cliristchurch Ladies' Guild providing refreshmen to. An officers' social evening was also bold, a lai£4' number of officers attending. At the annual general meeting of tho Lyttelton. WesleyjVil choir there was a good • attendance of mpifcbers. The chair was taken by the Rev. 'X.t Frost. The balance-sheet showed tho choir funds to be in a very satisfactory portitlion, there _ being a credit balance on. the year's working. A hearty vote_ of thanks to tho chaiiman and the retiring office-bearers brought tie meeting to a close.* BOROUGH COUNCIL. The Lyttelton Council met last evening. Present —Thb Mayor (Mr W. T. Lester), Crs. G. S. J. T. Norton, G. Whitford, M. J. MiOoit, J. H. Collins, W. J. Elliott, J. Webb, and .J. T. Norton, The Mayor welcomed >(ir. Elliott back to tho Council, after his recent illness, and expressed a hope, that hist, liealtk would continue to improve. The Mayor reported that ihe and Cr. J. T. Norton, and representatives-, of the HoepiUl Board, had waited oS the- Minister of P»blio Health in reference to« tho proposed maternity homo in Lyttelloli. It was decided to congratulate the League on the efficient manner in which it had carTied out the mail services during tho nailway "cut." Messie Kayc and Carter wrote asking for a renown] of tho lease-of tho store at present occupied by them. The 'matter was referred to the Estates Committee. The Minister of Railways wrote acknowledging the Council's letter asking for the resumption of pre-war train services, or at least that two trains be run on Sundays, «nd in reply stated that the matter would receive consideration. Cr. G. S. Morris moved that the Council should appoint a committee to go into tho question of the tTain service. t He said that now the Government had decided to restore the pre-war trains it would be a good opportunity to make suggestions to the Department for tho betterment of the railway service, far onoe the programme had been mapped out the Department would not alter it. Tho ■ motion was seconded by Qr. Norton arcl supported by Cr. Miller, who exprceeed the opinion that the pre-war time-table could be improved upon without extra cost to the Department. The motion was carried, and the following committee was elected: —The Mayor, Crs. J. T. Norton, M. J. Miller, G. S. Morris, and J. H. Collins. Cr. Morris moved, that tho Railway Department be asked that part of the ferry train should be used for the south express to save south-bound passengers the annoyance of having to change trains. The matter wao referred to the newlyelected Railway Committee. The matter of the recent rise in fares to Diamond Harbour was referred to by Cr. Morris. He said that some of tho campers had complained of hardship caused by the launch owners treating them as casual passengers instead of putting them on the same level as ratepayers. Cr. Collins said the campers should be treated as ratepayers, and be enoouraged to tgko up sections. ' The town clerk was deputed to confer with the launch owners in the master. It was decried to alter the hour of the Council meetings to 7.30 p.m. Cr. Collins moved and Cr. Morris amended:'"That the Telegraph Department be asked to remove the slot telephone box from Norwich quay, to London street, and that » telephone be installed at West Lyttelton, at the oorner of Voelas road and Brittan terrace.'" The motion was carried. The Lyttelton Bowling Club was granted permission to lioXl a Paddy's Market on a portion of Norwich quay on October* 30th.
