MR MASSEY'S MANIFESTO
♦ NEWSPAPER COMMENT. (special to "the phess,") DTJNEDIN, October 13. The *'Stnr" says: "Mr Massey's programme constitutes a sane policy, and has at least the unique merit of brevity and directness of statement. He has avoided the rolo of a political 'drummer,' and i 3 content to advertise sedately in the conservative manner of old-established firms, who depend not so much on elaborate windowdressing as upon the quality _of the varied and valuable stocli in their great but gloomy warehouses. _ Mr Massey's manifesto has at least this outstanding business merit : it is not crammed with shoddy silk or velvet. The manifesto strikes one high note, though most people, we fear, will accept it as a waiiling note. This is the reference to the need for a National Party, held together by the supreme object of promoting the welfare of New Zealand. There is no such thing, and never will be while vanity dominates our leading politicians."
