SOUTH CRESCENT ROAD.
WIDENING PROPOSALS
A conference between representatives of the Tramway Board, the Drainage Board, the Spreydon Borough Council, and the City Council, was held recently to consider the question of widening South Crescent road from Kipling street to Barrie street, and the covering in of Jackson's Creek for a distance of 5 chains 60 links, and it was decided to allocate the cost of tho work (estimated at £315) as follows: Chrjstcliurch Tramwi.v Board £115, Christchurch City Council one half, and the Christchurch Drainage Board and the Spreydon Borough Council one quarter each of the balance.
Tho Christchureh Tramway Board has agreed to the payment off £115 by it. Representatives of the Drainage Board, the Spreydon Borough Council, and the City Council also considered the question of widening South Crescent road near its junction with Selwyn street, covering in a portion of Jackson's creok, and erecting a fence, at an estimated cost of £264. The conference decided to apportion the payment as follows: Christchurch City Council £150, Christchurch Drainage B~rrd £-57, Spreydon Borough Council £57. The owners have agreed to give the necessary land (6 feet) required for widening the rond, and havo accepted the City Council's offer of £3 per chain towards the cost of the erection of a new fence. Upon the recommendation of its Works and Sanitary Committee, tho City Council last night agreed to the above proposals.
