SWEET PEA AND CARNATION SOCIETY.
ANNUAL MEETING.
The annual meeting o£ eubscribers to tho Canterbury Sweet Pea and Carnation Society was held last week, Mi G. Penlinglon presiding over /U fair attendance. The annual r©po"rt stated that the annual show, which was held in January, had been very ' euccessful. Four new - members h&d been clectcd during the year, and the Society had, by holding a sale of pot plants in tho Square, been enabled to give £3 £s lOd to a fund for the reinstat-ement of dsvii&tU'ted countries. The committer had decided to affiliate with the Progress League, and Mr W. J. Jenkin had been electcd as the Society's representative. The balanco-ehoet, which, -with the report, wa« adopted, showed a credit balance of £28 Ss Id.

J. expressing sympathy with hiiu in his illness, and hoping for his speedy recovery, wit« in appreciation of hia services during his throe yeai3 as president. After four years' service the treasurer,' Mr 13. C. Pratt, declined nomination for » further term, and ho was heartily tha.nked for tho manner in which he had carried out lii 3 duties.
It was decided to discoutinuc tho cottage and factory garden competition owing to lack of (-.unport.
Tho chairman presented Mr Bradbury with two goid medals won by him at tha" show for carnations and sweet peaj.
A hearty vote of thanks was passed to Mr C. W. Hervey for auditing the accounts, to Mr li. B. Best lor the iiso of his room, and to tho chairman.
