BURGESSES' ASSOCIATION. The annual meeting of the Linwood Burgesses' Association was held on Tuesday, Hr W. J. l{obert3 presiding over a good attendance. The annual report showed that much work had been accomplished in the district oy tho Association, notably the widening of the inter-section of Stanmore road and Cashel street, the Carnival for the Tramway Copper Trail Fund, and improvements in lighting, ruad3, etc. Tho balance-sheet 6howed a credit balance of £3 19s. It was resolved that the Association should form a local branch tho Town-Planning Association, Mr T. S. Dacre to be the representative on tho Central Committee. Officers were electcd as follows: —Patron, Hon. G. W. Russell; president, Mr W. J. Roberts; vice-presidents, Messrs H. F. Herbert, H. D Muff, and \\. M. Robinson; hon. secretary, Mr T. »• Dacro; hon. treasurer, Mr W. M. Robinson. SCOTTISH SOCIETY. . A welcome home social wae given in toe room of the Scottish Society by the Christchurch Highland Pipe Band, to returned Pipers J. Young, W. MacEwan, S. Smith, G. t'ra.ser, H. Fra?=er, and R. Scott. Mr a. Robertson (president) occupied the chair. ana welcomed the pipers home on behalf of the band and honorary members. Addresses were also Riven by Mr Chas. to. Thomas ,vP r ®~ tident of the Canterbury Caledonian SocietyV Mr A. MacGillivrav (Chisf of the Scotish Soc«t>). Mr G. Witty M.P., and DrumMajor J. Sneddon. Songs were contributed by Mesdames Seott and MacGilliyray, dances by the Misses Buist and Price and Mr Simon Macdonald recited, "The Pipes at Lucknow Refreshments were provided, and dancing indulged in under Mr J. Fraser.
