OBITUARY.
News has been received in Napier of the death of the lie v. Rollo R. St. John Hovell, priest in' charge of the English Church at Hartley, Rhodesia, South Africa The deceased, who was the youngest son of the late Dean of Waiapu. lost his life in an attempt to save several boys who were bathing in the L'mpoli river.
I -Mr Ernest Beauchamp Hare, of Pahiatua, estate agent, died at „Wellington r:n Sunday, at the age of 63. In the fiO's deceased was in business in partnership with Mr Ropn, as llopp and Hare, general merchants. Masterton. After some; years be went to Pahiatna, and carried on a successful business iw estate a cent. His father, the late Mr Robert Hare, was one of Masterton's earliest settlers.
The death is announced of Hr Albert Butler, of Cobden. one of tho West Const pioneers. He was for many years in the service of tli<; Mines Department. One of tho oldest and most respected citizens of 81-ujiball. in the person of Mr Arthur William Riddiford, died on Friday, in his seventy-seventh year. Deceased was a native of Buckinghamshire. England. ond iandod in Wellington bv th'* shin Douglas in 1872. Ho went to Hokitika and was appointed vcrwr of All Snints' Church, which, position lie occupied for some years. After that he went to Blackball, where ho carried on business as a stationer.
