The Hon. G. W. Russell arrived from tlio North by tho ferry steamer yesterday morning. Mr S. H. Osborne, of Dunedin, has been unpointed to adjudicate at tho ■ Christclinrch competitions, which begin I next week. Dr. Faris, District Health. Officer for Ota go and Southland, is to be transferred to Wellington, and will leavo Dunedin in about a fortnight. Mr Marcus F. Marks, Government printer, returned to Christchurch on Wednesday night, from Hanmer Springs, where lie had boon spending tho Easter holidays. He left for Wellington last night. Rifleman Jack Doody, formerly of the Napier "Daily Telegraph'' staff, has been chosen to travel througn France, Belgium, Palestine, and Gallipoli for the purpose of taking photographs of the graves of fallen soldiers. Flo is now attached to the Grave Gazetting Battalion, and is not expected home this year. At a public meeting, held -at Dunedin last night, the Rev. Vincent King, who has taken a prominent part in social work for many years, and who rendered invaluable service during the influenza epidemic, was presented with a motor-car, a cheque for over £100, a deposit slip for £1000 invested with tho Perpetual Trustees Company, in. recognition of his services. Amongst the soldiers who returned in the Kaikoura was 2nd Lieutenant J. T. Ford, R.A.F. Lieutenant Ford left Canterbury with the Main Body, served with the Ist C.Y.C. in Egypt and Gallipoli, and with the Machine-Gun Corps throughout the Sinai and Palestine campaigns. Soon after the capture of Jerusalem ho was recommended for the Royal Air Forces, entered the aviation school in Egypt, and qualified as a scout, with a commission, prior to the signing ot th& armistice. Mr T. H. Morgan, -who has been promoted to officer in charge of public buildings, and inspector of the messenger 6taff for the Dominion, wsusmet by tho Christchurch staff last night, and presented with a travelling rug and a smoker's outfit. Mr Glen, senior messenger, made the presentation, and extended, on behalf of the slaff, hearty congratulations to Mr Morgan on his promotion. Mr Morgan, jn replying, said he would carry away with him kindly feelings towards every member of the Christchurch staff, with whom he had had dealings during the past three yoars.
