BOROUGH COUNCILS.
RANGIORA. The Rangiora Borough Council met laal night. Present—The Mayo? (Mr C- L Jennings), Councillors H. Boyd, 3". B. Lane, Wi A. Banks, V. H. Pulley, C. S. Ayera, W.J. Rouse, A. H. Tyler, W. G. Wright, and W. A. Rowse. A circular letter from tho Wanganui.. Borough Council regarding the repatriation of soldiers was received. A , motion from tho Newmarket Borough C/mncil to the effect that the Government be asked to provide the necessary legislation whereby the upkeep of all fire brigades should be shared! equally between the Government, insurance companies, and local bodies, ijas endorsed. The Riccarton Borough Council forwarded copies of resolutions passed bj- the Council, protesting against tho Influenza epidemic relief fund, o» - voted bjr Parliament, being administered .by the I Charitable Aid Board, . Public Health Department, or any department under tha • I Minister of Public Health, and suggesting that the only proper channel would be tha • \ local bodies. The document wa« received. An- application was reccrwd from the Rangiora Volunteer Fire Brigade asking tho Council to appoint a caretaker for the Brigade's plant. The was referred to the Fir© Brigade Committee to confer with the members of the Brisrade. The secretary of tho Municipal Association of New Zealand wrote notifying the Council that a conforenoe of delegates was to be held shortly, and asking for any remits from the Council to be forwarded immediately. It was stated that there were no remits to be forwarded. ' Mr van Asch waited on the Council with an application from Messrs Golding Bros, and Mr W. Blackstt for the consent of the Council to declare a 10ft right-of-way giving access to the rear of their premises fn High street » private rightof-way. The request was granted. The Mayor was appointed to represent thf Council at a Dominion Town Planning Odd* ference, to be held shortly in Wellington. Cr. W. A. Rowse expressed the appreciation of the mothers of children visiting Victoria Park for the sanitary conveniences recently erected, and he moved that the' Council go further ajid consider the erection of swings, ctc. The motion was carried. It was decided to appoint * committee to visit the Borough Reserve of 800 acrm at Lvndhurst with a view to reporting on theadvisability of cutting the property into smaller areas. Jt was decided that the Council Tisit the reserve in .a body.
