Speight, of St. Bay road, Parnell, late of Epsom, has received cablc advice that "his second son, William Arthur Speight, died at .ivBa, Fiji, on the 16th inst. The lata ;;/• Mr Speight had been for the last 26 years an officer in the chemistry ' branch of the Colonial Sugar Refining ■ > Co. at Chelsea, Goondi (Queens- '* land), Svdnev, and Fiji, being at th& timo of his death manager of tho company's experimental nurseries at Ba. >■. He was educated at Newton "West school, taking the first Foundation Scholarship from that school to the ' Auckland Grammar School in 1888. He gained the Senior Foundation Scholarship at the latter school in 1890. Ho completed his education at the Auckland University, and for, a short time was teaching under the Auckland Education Board at tho Grafton road school. While living in Auckland he was a keen athlete, being ,' a prominent member of the old United Association Football Club, the AH ' • Saints' Crickct Club, and the Auck-, land Rowing Club. The deceased in his 44th year. He leaves a widovr and three sons.
