SCHOOL MEDICAL SERVICE.
WORK TO BE EXTENDED.
(PHESS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAMS.)
WELLINGTON, December 26. In order to extend the scope of the work done by the School Medical Service, the Minister of Education has do-' cided to increase the number of .doctors and school nurses, also to add four dentists to the staff, and to appoint a medical officer as head of the school medical and physical training branches. As soon as the equipment is available, the Ministof hopes to establish a travelling dental clinic in one of the backcountry districts.
■ The Minister further hopes that some of the additional money voted for the assistance of tho finances of school committees during the late session will bo' applied for tho provision of cooking apparatus nt some schools, so that children who have to travel considerable distances may be given hot cocoa or soup, or even hot meals. The value of such provision in promoting tho health and comfort of children has been widely rccognised in the United States and Canada. '
