racing and trotting NOTES. (BT "Eookkb-ON.") Acceptances for the Feilding Jockey Olub'a Spring Meeting, together with final payments for the Thirteenth Feilding Stakes, are due ab's.3o p.m. to-day. Owing to the Health Department's proaititkm. of race meetings, the South Canterbury Jockey Club has been compelled *o postpone ila -November meeting for an indefinite period. Nominations for the Mothven Racing Club's Annual Meeting, to be held on December sth, close at 8 p.m. to-day. The club has put forward, a very .attractive programme, and it deserves the support of owners. A* message from Melbourne, published in the Sydney "Sun" of .November 6th, says:— An enquiry was held into the riding of Jinmark in the Derby. After taking evidence, the stewards were of the opinion that McLachlan did his best to win on , but wae hampered with instructions which he endeavoured to carry out. Talking about tho race yesterday McLachlan pointed out that Mr Lowry had asked him why he did not go to tho front and eet a sound pace when ho saw the field cantering. McX/achlan replied that tho trainer of Finmark had given him instructions to remain behind, and he did not care to tako the risk of disobeying. McLachlan thinks tho colt might have done better, but he is not confident that I'inmark would have won, for ho seemed to shirk his task at the Leger stand, and might have dono the same in a fastrrun race. F. Davis admits having told McLachlan to keep in third or fourth place in tho field, but he blames McLachlan for allowing Outlook and Eusebius to get so far ahead of him when tho field was only cantering, and for allowing Outlook to get ft break of four lengths on him at ; tho start of the last halfmile.

The Government' of New South. Wales is going to get a -very big revenue from bettine during tie current financial year (says tbe Sydney "Referee"). As compared with the first four months of laat year there m a marked increase, the total being £74,969, again®* £83,536. Last year - tho Governrt.ent'a return from racecourse speculation of all kinds vaa £199,595, but this year that sum >vill be jreatly exceeded. From the beginning of July to tne end of October of this year the totalisator return was £50,633, against £18,290 in 1917, and betting taxes £24,336, against £15,464.
