Berrill, a director of Messrs Gordon and Gotcli, Ltd., the woll-known pubushing house. Mr Robert Grigor, who died at his residence. Balclutlia, on Saturday, aged 17 years, was one to whom the history of Clutha was an open book. _ from Edinburgh, he arrived in Baicluthn. in 1858, and in 1861 took up service with tho Government as a surveyor. After doing valuablo work on the Oaniaru seaboard, ,in \Ti Gabriel's Gully, and in the Clutna Valley districts, he resigned the Government service in 1864' and settled ' dowu in' privato business in Balclutha, first as stock and station a£ent for tho firni of Grigor and Maitland, and later 011 ho resumed his surveying profession, which ho carried .on until increasing age in the last few years compelled him to relinquish work. For a long period he had been registrar of electors and j returning officer for the electorate of Clutha.
