OBITUARY.
The death occurred at Bluff on Safcflr. day morning of Captain Bullars, one of the oldest Maoris of the South Island, said to bo over 100 years of age. "Buller," as ho was popularly termed, was a well-known figure at Bluff, almost daiiy taking his constitutional through the town in his braided uniform, until recently when his ailment confined him to his house, wliez'o he was found dead. He was a brother of tho lato King Topi/ of Iluapuke Island, and a chieftain of tho Ngaitahu tribe, and uncle of tho Hon. John Topi Patuki, M.L.C. Bullar's son "Barney" is now chief officer of tho Government steamer Hinemoa. It is understood that the remains will be interred in the family graveyard at Rjiapuke, with the ceremony Vsualiy* accorded to one of such honourable lineage. ' ..." Another West Coast pioneer passed away on Sunday at tlio Westl-ana Hospital in the person of Mr James D» Locliore, at the ripe ago of 91 years, after a short illness. Doceased had com© from Scotlayd to the colonies before gold was discovered, and followed the principal rushes, having been oil the Coast for over half a century. Among tho deaths from influenza at Auckland, on Friday, was that of Mr W. Holhmd, brother of Judgo A. A. Holland, of tho Native Land Conrt, and son of Mr J. J. Holland, an exMayor of Auckland. He was attacked only a few days previously, and pneumonic complications ensued. Mr Holland is survived by a widow and iivo children, one eon being on active service.
