PIGEON FLYING.
The Canterbury Pigeon Firing Club oh" its first North Island race of the season from. Johnsonville. Ons hundred and sixty birds were sent, divided amongst 22 owners. The birds were liberated by the stationmaster at 10.12 a.m. in a light northerly wind, which changed shortly afterwards to a strong eou'-west wind. Only two birds put 111 an .appearance 011 the day of liberation, the others timing- in early next marning. The winner was J. Sliipton's Hod Or'.eanist, which flew the distance of 202 mi.es 55 yards air-line in Shrs 12min. The following is thi Telocity per minute each bird attained: —J. Shipton's Red Orleaniat, 722 yards; F. Kibblewhite'3 No. 130, 711 yards; Woodhouso Bros., Bonnie Laddie. 617 yards; E. i'udis's B1 dek Jack, 013 yards; H. Browning's No. 623. Gl2 yards: .barter Bros.' Wasr, 60S yards: 11. Pearson's jNo. 40 £93 yards; C Suaw's No. 253, 593 yards: "W. Blanchard's No. 235, 570 yards; ±. Wilson's No. 27, 553 yards; B. l-'innegac's Antagonist, 551 yards; D Dore's Zada, 455 yards; A. Gerard's No. HI, 4U2 yards: W. Hewitt's No. 96. 46S yards: \V. Cumminis's Kewpie, 46C yards; G.
