ANOTHER CONDUCTOR

DISMISSED.

No fresh developments with regard to the tramway trouble were recorded yesterday beyond the dismissal of yet another conductor. This man—making the 10th employee dismissed so farwas put off i'or "grave irregularities in connexion with the Bale.of tickets," and thp management indicated that it would prefer the man's name not to be mentioned, so that his chance of obtaining a position elsewhere might not bo prejudiced. Tho service of trams on one' or two lines was decidedly better yesterday, according to a statement made by the traffic manager, and in some iases the tiafSc was almost normal. In other cases it was still indifferent, and several passengers on the No. 1 line complained that tliey had to wait tjj to 45 minutes for a car. It ia expected thit as a result of the Union's meeting to-night, something definite towards a settlement will be done. A public meeting will be held in the Opr>ra House to-morrow night, when the Union's case will be stated by Messrs E. Snow, D. G. Sullivan, and Hiram Hunter. Councillor A. Williams, Deputy-Mayor, will preside.

At a meeting of tho Canterbury Engine Drivers' and Firemen's Union hold in the Trades Hall last evening, the following resolution was unanimously carried: "This meeting of the Canterbury Engine Drivers' and Firemen's Union strongly condemns the action of the Christchurch Tramway Board in refusing to pay a living wage in accordance with the high cost of living now ruling, and whon the rato of pay asked for by the Employees' Union is the ruling rate elsewhero." At a meeting of the Canterbury Printers' Machinists' and Bookbinders' Union, held at the Trades Hall, on Thursday evening, the following resolution was unanimously passed: "That this meeting oxpressee its disgust at the action of the Tramway Board in depriving men of their situations whilst endeavonring to carry out the confusing regulations provided by the Board. As citizens of Christchurch we desire to see the men reinstated at tho earliest possible moment, and we desire that these mon in the employ of the citizens of Christchurch be _placed on the same footing as the Wellington tramway employees."
