In. a letter received from Franco, Mr Harry Ellwood learns that Mr Jean Gerardy, the famous 'cellist, is serving with the Belgian Army. Mr H. E. Gott, who. was recently seriously injured whilst cycling to business,' is "making" satisfactory progress towards recovery/ and hopes t-o be able to be about again in a few days. The well-known local tenor singer, Mr W. J. Trewern, recently underwent, a serious operation. _ He is now out of danger, and-is making rapid progress towards recovery. Mr W. H. Warren, who has been in the service of Messrs Dalgety and. Co. lor nearly fourteen years, has been appointed to the position of secretaiy of the ' Wholesale Farmers' Federation, Ltd., "Wellington. \it R. C. Ancell, of the staff of the .Director of Recruiting, has been appointed secretary to the Socond Military Service Board in succession to Mr R. (j. Thomson, who has resumed his duties on "Hansard;" The Rev. P. S. Waddy f the wellknown New South Wales, inter-State, and international cricketer, has accepted the position of Canon at the Anglican Cathedral inv Jerusalem. He went to the front as chaplain. Sir H. G. Berryman, of Kohat-a, Nelson (late of North Canterbury), has received a cable message from his eldest son, ' Lieut. W. O. Berryman, 12th Lancers, stating'that he is coming home in January. Lieut. Berryman has been continuously, on service since the beginning of the. war. He has recently been seriously ill. A. cable message received by Mrs Sadlier gives the news that Bishop Sadlier, of Nelson, is now in France, after spending some weeks in England visiting hospitals and camps where New Zealand soldiers are to be found. In France he has met his son, Corporal Horace Sadlier, who left this country nearly a year ago with Artilleiy reinforcements. Both the Bishop and his son were well at the time the message was sent. Among tho New Zealand soldierpressmen who are at presont at headquarters in London assisting in the .compilation of the history of the. New Zealand Expeditionary Force in the present war is Private R. H. Skipwith, who was at one time on the "Referee" staff, and was latterly handicapper for several racing clubs in the North Island. Private Skipwith is engaged-on tho Army Service Corps section of the work.
