GLEANERS' UNION.
ANNUAL MEETING. Under tho au6pioes of the Church Missionary Society, the 26th anniversary of the Christchurch Gleaners' Union was celebrated yesterday. A short ear vice was conducted by the Rev. F. C. Long in the Cathedral at 5.15 p.m. In the evening the annual publio meeting was held in the Y.M.C.A. The chairman, the Ven. Archdeacon _ Haggitt, presided. The chairman gave a spirited, address, emphasising tho fact that missionary work was the primary work of the Church. Tho. adoption of the report and balancoshoefc was proposed by tho chairman, seconded by tho Rev. A. C. Purchas, and carried. On the motion of Mr Stening, a special vote of thanks was pawed to the hon. secretary and treasurer, Miss M. C. Fryer.* The Rev. F. C. Long, who recently returned from India, then addressed th.® mooting, and dealt chiefly -upon his five years' missionary work in Peshawar. He expressed tho hopo that the Gleaners' Union would do its utmost to further the work-for the Mission School, particularly in India and China. Th© following officials for the ensuing year were elected:—President, Mr J. Holloway; vice-president, Miss Rourdillon; hon. secretary and treasurer, Mies M. C. Fryer; committee, Misses Bowen, Cooper, Fryer, Hickinbottom, Hull, M. Inwood, Manson, Rev. C. C. Oldham, Rev. A. Purohas, Mt "VV. Orange, Mr G. Stening.
