4 DEMAND OF LOCOMOTIVE ASSOCIATION. f ,rnF.«s association - telegram.) "WELLINGTON, October 30. Tho Executive Council of the New Zealand Locomotive Engineers', Firemen's, and Cleaners' Association has decided to agree to tho men's demand for a secrct ballot if a majority of Dominion councillors confirm this step. The Council is making an appeal to tho people to see that tho men are not worked under worse conditions than they are working under themselves. The men contend that war bonuses do not act fairly with men in receipt of overtime, for which they only get a flat rate. They demand increased wages to the extent of at least sufficient to equal the purchasing power of wages received in 1900. They also ask for:— Overtime nates for cleaners when over eight hours have been worked. 'Overtime, at rate and a half for engineers and firemen when over 48 hours have been worked. Double timo for over GO hours in a week. Time and a half between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m.; double timo onßunday, Christmas Day, and Good Friday. Thirteen days' statutory holiday. Increased lodging allowance to men temporarily from home. The minimum timo between shifts to bo eight hours. The ballot will be taken immediately, if approved by the Dominion councillors, to ascertain what action the men desiro to be taken to secure compliance with their rcquosts, and better wages conditions.
